What we're learning....

Math -students have been strengthening their addition and subtraction skills using the standard algorithm.  Next week we will begin learning how to multiply larger numbers.  This is where fact fluency is extremely important.

Reading -last week we finished reading Because of Winn Dixie, and the students shared when they learned about story elements by creating a storyboard. We will be continue to focus on those same story elements using our Story Works magazines this week and throughout the upcoming week.

Language Arts -during the past two weeks we have been learning "be a better writer" strategies.  This includes adding rich adjectives, replacing verbs, and using adverbs in our writing.  The class just finished brainstorming for their next writing workshop assignment: "Fall Favorites".

Social Studies -students are putting the finishing touches on their Treasure Islands.  Next, we will travel to our first region: The Northeast!!!

Valentine's Day

Some info on Valentine's Day....

Handing out valentines is completely optional.... however, if your child does decide to give them out, he/she must give them to EVERY student in the class.  Class lists were given out to those who were interested in order to help with this...

We will be doing a few easy crafts together on this day as well....  here are the links below...

In order to make this a success, we would like to ask that all students try to bring in a few cans (washed out and preferably with the label peeled off) so that each of them can make two of them.  Also any donations of rolls of decorative duct tape would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help with this!
